The Godfather of Rap – R&B Singer Andre Williams 1936 – 2019

The God-Father Of Rap

  • Pioneer
  • Inspiration
  • R & B Legend

The Godfather of Rap passed away Sunday March 17 at age 82. Andre began his career in the 1950s, recording his first records at Fortune Records in Detroit.

Some of this cool cat’s most famous songs include the hits “Jail Bait,” “Greasy Chicken,” “Bacon Fat” and “Cadillac Jack”. Williams was also the co-author of the R&B classic hit “Shake a Tail Feather”. In the early1960’s he even helped Stevie Wonder write and produce his first song, “Thank You For Loving Me.”

His skills in writing mo-town, soul, and funky blues style songs made him a legend in his time, even being known for writing songs for the funk bands Parliament and Funkadelic. He also produced for Ike Turner, The Temptations, The Contours, Aaron Neville, The Neville Brothers, Marvin Gaye, and FOGHAT. Not too shabby.

Here’s to an amazing, talented, funky rhythm and blues king, a true Hustler who lived life to the fullest.

Rest In Peace Andre
